Program Terms and Conditions

About Open Innovation Program

The Open Innovation Program (OIP) is commissioned by Make-IT in Africa, a project by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and implemented on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The Open Innovation Program (OIP) Uganda aims to bridge the gap between private and public sector innovation needs (problem statements) and innovators/start-ups providing customized solutions in the areas of Smart Cities and Green Tech.

The contracted implementing partner is SHA Consulting Group Ltd., Serumaga Road 851, Bukoto, Kampala, Uganda. starthubafrica.org

The program is open to early-stage innovators and entrepreneurs working on technology-driven solutions in the field of smart cities.

There is no entry fee into the program.

By entering this program, an entrant shall be deemed to be consent to be bound by these terms and conditions.

SHA Consulting Group Ltd shall not be responsible for entries not received for whatever reason.

SHA Consulting Group Ltd. reserves the right to cancel or amend the program and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable Law or Regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control. Any changes to the program will be communicated to the entrants as soon as possible by the promoter.

SHA Consulting Group Ltd. shall have the right, at its sole discretion and at any time, to change or modify these terms and conditions, such change shall be effective immediately upon posting on starthubafrica.org

Eligibility

All entries will be reviewed, and teams will be selected based on meeting the standard requirements and their fit with the program, which are:

  1. All applicants must be living Physically in Kampala November – April 2024
  2. At least 3 full days a week physically available for the program
  3. Excited to improve your soft-skills and gain practical experience
  4. Students waiting for graduation and recent graduate (graduation not more than 2 years ago)
  5. 30 years and below
  6. All applicants must have access to a laptop/computer and internet.
  7. No current formal employment
  8. Women are encouraged to apply

Program Commitment Requirements

  1. Availability: The founder must be available to participate in the program from May to October.
  2. Mentorship Sessions: Must participate in up to 16 mentorship sessions throughout the program.
  3. Learning Workshops: Must participate in up to 8 learning workshops.
  4. Partner Meetings: Must be available for bi-weekly meetings with the private/public sector partner.

Intellectual Property Rights

Applicants confirm by entering the program that, to the best of their knowledge, they own all Intellectual Property Rights (“IPRs”) subsisting in their entry to the program and that their entry does not infringe any third party’s IPRs. They are responsible for obtaining any necessary permission from third parties to use their IPRs in their submission. SHA Consulting Group Ltd. reserves the right to disclose the applicant’s identity to any third-party claiming material posted or uploaded by it to the program website constitutes a violation of their IPRs, or their confidentiality/privacy rights. SHA Consulting Group Ltd reserves the right to ask for additional evidence or documents to validate that all the information supplied by the Applicants is true and complete.

Subject to the above terms, we recognize the Applicants’ ownership of the IPRs subsisting in their entry to the program.

Neither SHA Consulting Group Ltd nor any other partner of the program retains any equity or ownership of the idea or product upon application. Applicants retain full and exclusive ownership of their information and intellectual property rights. Any idea submitted will only be used for the purpose of evaluating the entrants’ application to SHA Consulting Group Ltd.

Before entering the co-creation process with a partner, the selected partner and startup are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

Use of personal Data

SHA Consulting Group Ltd. and the GIZ take the protection of personal data very seriously. All personal information submitted will only be used for the program implementation and will not be used for any other purpose (including promotional purposes) without your consent.
